Lao Red Cross History
The Lao Red Cross was established on 1st January 1955. It was then recognized and certified by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on 23rd May 1957 and obtained a membership of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) on 25th October 1957, during the 24th General Assembly of the Red Cross in New Delhi, India. Lao Red Cross is a social organization, with the mission as auxiliary to the government in the area of poverty reduction and helping victims from both natural and man-made disasters and assisting on the health care of the people. The Lao Red Cross acts as a bridge between the rich and the poor, and has the role to raise fund from the rich to help the poor people, based on the 7 fundamental principles, which there are:
LRC Position and Role
The Lao Red Cross (LRC) or Croix-Rouge Lao is a social organization in Lao PDR, working under the direct guideline of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Government. The Headquarters is in Vientiane Capital City. The LRC is auxiliary to the Government on the relief operation , assisting also in the health care promotion to the victims from disasters and vulnerable people, actively contributing in the humanitarian works based on the 7 fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
Duties and functions

Follow up and develop all the government policies and laws

Gathering data information about health education for disease prevention, Blood donor recruitment, First Aid, victims from man-made and natural disasters.

Coordinating and cooperating with all organizations concerned for the data information gathering, disseminating in nation wide about the role and responsibilities of the LRC, mobilize all the level of people to involve with the humanity spirit.

Tracing and restoring family link

Staff improving, restructuring, rewarding, punishing etc..

Circular all the notices according to the LRC role.

Annual planning of the government budget for the HQ and branches.

Monitoring & evaluation

Coordinating and cooperating with all the National Societies and others partners concerned organizations.

Appropriate use of government and other partners funding in compliance with the LRC role and responsibility.
