Boat engines hand over to target villages of Community Based Disaster Preparedness project
The Lao Red Cross Community based Disaster Preparedness project , supported by Japanese Red Cross, is now implementing in Mahaxay and Hinboun districts of Khammouane province and Xayboury
district of Savannakhet province. Since these districts are counted in high risk due to the location of the villages are along the Nam Pakan , Nam Hinboun and Nam Xebangfai rivers, which cause therefore, flooding every year. So far the CBDP project has formed the villages volunteers (5 persons each) for warning and helping task at emergency situation.
In order to continue the further preparedness activities of the project, on the 8-12th Sept 2008, the CBDP project headed by Dr. Bountheung Menvilay as the project manager, has proceeded the hand over ceremony of 9 set of boat engines and 3 set of drug boxes to the following villages:
* At Khammouane province:
- Nakiao village, Mahaxay district (2 boat engines)
* At Hinboun district:
- Napho, Thakeam, Konekeo villages (1 boat engine and 1 set of drug boxes each )
- Vanghoapa village ( drug boxes, T-shirts to volunteers)

* At Xayboury district, Savannakhet province:
- Sakong and Phakpheua villages ( 2 boat engines each)
The hand over ceremony was witnessed by the Head of provincial office, village authority and number of concerned villagers. The total cost of the this hand over is 40,572,000 kip. These boat engines will be used for the evacuation when flooding.
Besides boat engines, so far the project has provided the loudspeakers with the cost 27,802,000 kip.
