The Sixth South East Asia Meeting on Voluntary Non-remunerate
Blood Donor Recruitment
Two technicians from the National Blood Center of the Lao Red Cross, on the 18- 21 August 2008, had been assigned to participate in the Sixth SEA Annual Meeting on Voluntary Non-remunerate Blood Donor Recruitment, held in the Philippines and hosted by Philippine Red Cross, in which the Representatives from 9 National Society members in SEA were also attended, there are: Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC), Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), Thai Red Cross (TRC), Myanmar Red Cross (MRC), Singapore Red Cross (SRC), Malaysian Red Crescent (MRCS), Indonesian Red Coss (PMI), Lao Red Cross (LRC) and Philippine Red Cross ( PNRC) as a host.
The meeting has reviewed the achievement of the implementation of the Non-remunerate Blood Donor Recruitment Campaign within one year.
The best experiences have been raised and shared by the Representatives of each National Society, with the aim of focusing on the regular and continuous blood donor, to ensure the safe and sufficient of blood quantity to supply to the patient who need blood throughout the country. In the last six months there
number of 85% of non-remunerate blood donors.
The next meeting will be held in Bali, Indonesia.
The number of 520 Blood donor recruiters have been trained in the past six months
In order to reach the achievement of the non-remunerate blood donor recruitment campaign as the set goal, the Blood Transfusion Center together with other agencies have fulfilled the following:
The number of faculties of the National University, the vocational schools, the number of high schools, the army troops within Vientiane capital City, Vientiane and Bolikhamxay provinces have been involved in the training course of basic knowledge on the Blood donation, with the aim of allowing them to understand and further mobilize others for more blood donation. Most of the trainees were from the Leadership and responsible persons of the above concerned agencies. The outcome of this training showed that the number of the blood donors is increased.
The number of 7,527 of blood bags within 9 months of 2008
The number of 10,000 bags at the National Blood Center and the number 10,000 bags at the branch level are needed for supplying, according to the plan of this year 2008.
So far the number of blood received is 7,527 bags, equal to 75.2% at National Blood Center, however at the branch level the number of blood received has reached only 55%.
